Background – Ballarat Medical Centre is a long established general practice located in a large rural city west of Melbourne. The practice is situated in a newly renovated and tastefully decorated building with large consulting rooms, treatment facilities and a quiet, professional ambience. The practice is close to two major hospitals. A branch practice is located 15 kilometres south of Ballarat in the township of Buninyong.

The doctors provide a comprehensive range of family medical services and have special interests including travel medicine, paediatrics, asthma, diabetes, women's health and adolescent health.

Ballarat and Buninyong Medical Centre's have been accredited by AGPAL. AGPAL accreditation evaluates the quality and safety of care available in the practice in accordance with the standards of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

Achieving accreditation is a voluntary process and covers features such as:

  • The safe and lawful use of practice equipment
  • Accessibility and availability of medical care including after - hours and emergency care.
  • Staff training
  • Information technology and information security
  • and the security and availability of your records and information.

Everyone at the practice plays a valuable role in working to meet the standards.


 Core Standards

  • We expect mutual respect between patients and all members of the health team at Ballarat Medical Centre. Aggressive or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated within the practice.
  • We expect patients to respect the privacy of other patients in the waiting room.
  • Mobile phones should be switched off in the waiting room and consulting room. Children should be supervised at all times.
  • We acknowledge your right to have more than one general practice clinic manage your health care needs but would appreciate full disclosure on your past and current medical treatment to allow us to provide you with the best possible care.  


Teaching Practice

Ballarat Medical Centre is an accredited teaching practice pairing with Deakin University Medical School's training program. This involves having 4th year medical students in training undertaking placement at the practice. From time to time there maybe a medical student in training sitting in with your doctor. If you prefer that the medical student not be present during your consultation, please let the doctor or reception staff know.
